CALLGOOSE

Android Mobile App

Certain device-level settings must be enabled on Android devices to ensure reliable push notification delivery.

When you open the app for the first time, it will prompt you to:

  • Grant notification permissions
  • Allow background app execution
  • Disable battery optimization (if applicable)
  • Enable Override Do Not Disturb (DND) for Critical Alerts (Severity-1), if required by your organization

These permissions are necessary to ensure timely delivery of incident notifications, especially high-priority alerts.

Notification Permissions

The Callgoose SQIBS app must have notifications enabled in order to receive push notifications. When you open the app for the first time, it will guide you through enabling the required settings.

You can also enable notifications manually by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings from the Navigation drawer
  2. Tap System Notification Settings
  3. This will open the device settings. You can enable the notification permission there.

Disable Battery Optimization

Disable battery optimization to ensure push notifications are delivered even when the app is not running in the foreground.

If battery optimization is not disabled, you may experience delays or miss important notifications.

When you open the app for the first time, it will guide you through enabling the required settings.

If you skipped this step, you can manually enable it. Tap here for more information.

Background app execution

Similar to battery optimization, you must also allow background app execution/app can start itself after your phone reboots to ensure push notifications are delivered even when the app is not running in the foreground.

If background execution is disabled, you may experience delays or miss important notifications.

When you open the app for the first time, it will guide you through enabling the required settings.

Severity-1 Override DND(For Critical alert)

Critical alerts override Silent Mode and Do Not Disturb (DND) on Android devices for push notifications related to Severity-1 priority incidents.

If your organization enforces this capability, you must enable Override Do Not Disturb for the notification channel "Incident Push Notification - Critical".

When opening the app, it will guide you to enable this setting.

You can also configure it manually:

  1. Navigate to Settings from the navigation drawer.
  2. Tap Severity-1 Override DND.
  3. This will open the device settings.
  4. Enable the Override Do Not Disturb option for the relevant notification channel.

On some Android OEM devices (such as Xiaomi or Redmi), the Override Do Not Disturb option may not be available within the notification channel settings. Instead, this option is located under Special App Access in the device settings.

To locate it:
• Open the device’s Settings.
• Search for Do Not Disturb.
• Navigate to the option from the search result.
• Enable Override Do Not Disturb for Callgoose SQIBS.

For these OEM devices, the Severity-1 Override DND setting within the app may continue to display as OFF even after enabling it at the device level. This is expected behavior.

If Override Do Not Disturb is enabled in the device settings for Callgoose SQIBS, critical push notifications will still function correctly, regardless of the in-app display status.

Push Notification

To ensure push notifications are delivered reliably, you must:

  • Enable notifications for Callgoose SQIBS
  • Allow the app to run in the background
  • Exclude the app from power management or battery optimization

When you open the app for the first time, it will guide you through enabling the required permissions.

If you did not grant the permissions during the initial setup, you can enable them manually from the device settings at any time.

Guide: Ensuring Callgoose SQIBS Runs in the Background

you may need to adjust your phone's "Autostart" or "Background Usage" and "App battery usage" settings. Android systems often "sleep" apps to save battery, which can delay or block our app's features.

1. Xiaomi / Redmi (HyperOS/MIUI)

Ensure the app can start itself after your phone reboots:

  1. Open device's Settings.
  2. Tap on Apps (For MIUI , under Apps > Permissions.)
  3. Select Background autostart.
  4. Find Callgoose SQIBS in the list and toggle the switch On.

Ensure the app is excluded from the Battery saver. This prevents the system from stopping the app when it is in the background:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Callgoose SQIBS > Battery saver and select No restrictions

2. Samsung (One UI)

This prevents the system from stopping the app when it is in the background.

  1. Open device's Settings and tap on Apps.
  2. Tap on Callgoose SQIBS from the list.
  3. Select Battery.
  4. Choose Unrestricted.

3. Google Pixel & Stock Android

  1. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps.
  2. Select Callgoose SQIBS.
  3. Tap App battery usage.
  4. Ensure Allow background usage is toggled On.
  5. Select Unrestricted to give the app maximum priority.

4. OPPO / Realme (ColorOS)

  1. Go to Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap App management > Callgoose SQIBS.
  3. Select Battery usage.
  4. Enable Allow background activity and Allow auto-launch

5. Vivo (Funtouch OS)

Ensure the app is excluded from the Battery saver. This prevents the system from stopping the app when it is in the background:

  1. Go to Settings > Battery > Background power consumption management.
  2. Find Callgoose SQIBS and select High background power consumption.

Ensure the app can start itself after your phone reboots:

  1. Go to Settings > More settings > Applications > Autostart > toggle On for Callgoose SQIBS

FAQ

Why am I not receiving push notifications?

There are several possible reasons:

  • Notifications are disabled for the app.
  • The app is restricted by battery optimization or power management.
  • Background app execution is disabled.
  • Do Not Disturb (DND) or Silent mode is enabled.
  • You are not assigned to the incident, schedule, or escalation policy.

What to do:

  1. Verify notifications are enabled in device settings.
  2. Ensure the app is excluded from battery optimization.
  3. Confirm you are assigned to the relevant incident or on-call schedule.

I receive notifications sometimes, but not always. Why?

Intermittent delivery is usually caused by:

  • Aggressive battery optimization (common on some Android OEM devices).
  • Background restrictions.
  • Network instability (Wi-Fi/mobile data switching).
  • The app being force-closed.

Recommendation:

Exclude the app from power management and allow background execution.

I enabled Override DND, but it still shows OFF in the app.

On some Android OEM devices (e.g., Xiaomi/Redmi), the Override Do Not Disturb setting is controlled at the system level under Special App Access.

Even if the in-app setting displays OFF, notifications will still override DND if it is enabled in the device settings.

Do push notifications work if my phone is in Silent or Do Not Disturb mode?

  • Normal notifications follow your device’s sound settings.
  • Severity-1 (Critical) alerts can override Silent and DND if:
  • Your organization enables Critical Alerts.
  • Override DND is enabled in device settings.

Do I need to keep the app open to receive notifications?

No. Push notifications are delivered even when the app is closed.

However, you must:

  • Allow background execution.
  • Avoid force-closing the app.
  • Disable battery optimization restrictions.

I force-closed the app. Will I still receive notifications?

On most devices, force-closing the app may temporarily prevent push notifications until the app is opened again.

To ensure reliable delivery, avoid force-closing the app.

Why am I not receiving Severity-1 (Critical) alerts?

Check the following:

  • Critical Alert capability is enabled by your organization.
  • Override DND is enabled in device settings.
  • You are part of the escalation policy or on-call schedule.
  • Notifications are enabled for the critical notification channel.

Does poor internet connection affect push notifications?

Yes. Push notifications require an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data).

If your device is offline or has unstable connectivity, delivery may be delayed.

I changed devices. Why am I not receiving notifications?

After changing devices:

  • Log in again on the new device.
  • Ensure notification permissions are granted.
  • Verify battery optimization settings.
